A quiet shop, but not for much longer August has been a slightly strange month in the garden. At the moment I only have three plants available to buy — Ewiger Kohl, Lemon Sorrel and Lovage — but that doesn’t really tell the whole story of what is growing behind the scenes. Over the next few weeks I’m hoping to increase that to around ten different plants. Alongside the current three, I have Skirret, Silverweed, Salad Burnet, Scorzonera, Yarrow and Wild Lettuce coming along, with hopefully another batch of Meadowsweet too. I’m particularly excited about the Skirret. It proved very popular last time I had plants available and I have a feeling this next batch may not hang around for very long either! There are also a few other things beginning to appear in the shop. I’ve started offering seeds, giving people another way to grow some of these unusual plants for themselves, and a much bigger project is nearly ready too. For the past few months I’ve been putting together a Heritage Edible Perennials Seed Kit — a gift set built around some of the old, useful perennial food plants that inspired The Forgotten Garden in the first place. The printed booklets, certificates and other pieces are now being produced, and if everything goes to plan the first kits should be available in around two to three weeks. And, after a lot of work, The Forgotten Garden has a brand-new website too. The new site makes it much easier to explore the plants, browse the shop, read about their history, follow sowing and propagation guides, and keep up with what is happening here in the garden. So although the shelves look a little sparse today, the greenhouse — and the website — certainly aren’t. There should be a lot more appearing in The Forgotten Garden before summer is over. 🌱
